Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11
Brothers and sisters:
If you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idolatry. Stop lying to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed, for knowledge, in the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew,circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free;but Christ is all and in all.
As I was getting my items out for my yard sale this past weekend, I realized that I have a lot of stuff. In fact, I have stuff all over my house. Every inch of my house has something taking up space. I didn’t even put out a quarter of what I could have to sell and I still had a lot of clutter.
I also have clutter in my spiritual life. I want to hear God’s voice but my life is too busy with stuff. Every minute of my day is planned. I run around from commitment to commitment and before I know it, the day is over.
I heard my priest say at Mass this past Sunday ” No one ever saw a U-Haul following a hearse”. While everyone laughed at this, it is so true. We can spend our days collecting material things but those items will not follow us after we die.
We need to work on the things that will get us to Heaven, not on collecting more stuff here on Earth. We can’t take it with us. But, we can take God with us always. He is always there for us – we need to make room in our hectic lives for Him.
God, help me to unclutter my life and be more open to listening for Your voice in my life.
