Remember therefore how you have received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If therefore you won’t watch, I will come as a thief, and you won’t know what hour I will come upon you.
Many times when you hear this passage, it is in the concept of our own death. None of us know the hour upon when God will call us home. It can be a very scary thought if you dwell on it long enough.
At Mass last Sunday, our priest mentioned our own mortality and for a split second, I had a minor panic attack. It is hard for me to ever envision a time when I will not physically be here on this planet. But, that time will come and I will not know the hour.
So, what do you do? You can do 1 of 2 things – you can get depressed and obsess about your mortality or you can live each day as if it were your last ( and one of those days WILL be your last!) and treat others as you would want to be treated. When God calls you home, He will ask you 1 thing – did you do My Will while you were alive? If you can answer “Yes” to that, He will be pleased.
This thief in the night will take your life here on Earth and hopefully transform it into Life Everlasting with Our Lord and God. What a steal!
