Never Forget

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound

September 11, 2001.

Everyone remembers exactly where they were on that tragic morning. I was, like many, at work when I heard the news that a plane had  hit the World Trade Center. My thoughts were like a lot of others ” How did a small plane get so close to a skyscraper in the middle of downtown Manhattan?”.  It only took a few more minutes for the awful reality to play out – America was under attack and our world would be changed forever.

It is in times of great despair and unspeakable sorrow that Our Lord is the closest to us. Many questioned the whereabouts of God on September 11th. But He was there. He was there in the first responders and their dedication to duty. He was there with the people on Flight 93 as they displayed amazing courage in bringing down the hijackers. He was there with the people at the Pentagon as they dealt with a terrorist attack of their own. And God was there for all of us as we all dealt with the aftermath of this historic day for our country and the world.

The Spirit of the Lord was upon our nation as we became one united America. Patriotism was never at this level before. Everyone had American flags flying at their houses.  In everyday life, people were  a little nicer to each other and we have come now to appreciate and thank our police, firemen and emergency medical technicians  for putting their lives on the line every day. Out of great tragedy came great compassion and love.

The terrorists did not win. Evil never does. Good will always conquer evil. God will always be with us in times of evil and good.
On this Patriot’s Day, let us never forget.
