From Your Knees

Bow the Knee – Lyrics by Michael Harland and Christopher Machen

There are moments on our journey following the Lord
Where God illumines every step we take.
There are times when circumstances make perfect sense to us,
As we try to understand each move He makes.
When the path grows dim and our questions have no answers, turn to Him.

Bow the knee, Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see. Bow the knee; Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity. And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan, In the presence of the King, bow the knee

There are days when clouds surround us, and the rain begins to fall, The cold and lonely winds won’t cease to blow.
And there seems to be no reason for the suffering we feel; We are tempted to believe God does not know.
When the storms arise, don’t forget we live by faith and not by sight.

Bow the knee, Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see. Bow the knee; Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity. And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan, In the presence of the King, bow the knee

This is probably my favorite hymn because it really speaks to me on many levels. We all have days when our lives are great and everything is going our way. And there are many days when the sun is not shining and it seems as if we can’t get through another minute. It is in these times especially when we just need to take a knee and ask God for his help and his compassion. God always listens to our pleas and He always answers, even if it’s not the answer we want to hear.

We are asked to walk by faith and not by sight. Sounds easy enough to say, but almost impossible to live by. In my own walk, there are many times when I don’t feel like having faith. I want proof. But God doesn’t need to show us proof; He shows us love.

I am constantly working on my faith and I have a long way to go. I don’t think anyone totally gets to that place of total 100% trust in God. I have doubted my faith many times because I don’t “feel” His presence. It is in those dark lonely times that God is most present.

The dark clouds and rain in our lives are there to serve God’s purpose – it calls us to be closer to God by needing Him more. God is a merciful God – He does not like to see us suffer. But sometimes we need to suffer in order to see the bigger picture- in order to see everything that God has already blessed us with. We need to never take God’s blessings and gifts for granted just as we should never assume that God will bail us out of the problems that we have caused ourselves.

So, when the sun shines in our lives and when the winds are blowing, bow the knee. Give thanks at all times and in all circumstances to our God. We don’t need to understand God; we just need to praise Him and be open to what His plan is for our lives. Accept the bad times with the good  and know that it all comes from Our Heavenly Father who wants nothing more than our love.

So, sit down, stand up or kneel and pray to the One who makes it all possible. For all things are possible with God.
