St. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)
Christ has no body but yours, No hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world,Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, Yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now but yours.
In this passage written so eloquently by St. Teresa of Avila, she describes how we need to act in persona Christi, or in the way of Christ here on earth. Yes, Christ is here with us in all that we do and say. But, as humans, we can’t see Christ. We only interact with other humans. Therefore, it is up to each of us to act like Christ. People can only “see” Christ through our thoughts and actions.
So, be like Christ in all things. Act as He would. Forgive others, be merciful and generous to the less fortunate and pray for others. See like Christ and walk in His footsteps. No on expects you to be able to be Christ, but to be like Him in all ways possible.
