As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew,
casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them,”Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
What faith Peter and Andrew must have had – to drop everything they were doing and follow this stranger just because they were called. How many of us would have done the same?
The fact is, God is always calling us to do something for Him. But are we listening? Is there too much distraction in our world for us to hear Him? Are we so wrapped up in our own wants that we don’t hear His voice?
Peter and Andrew heard His voice. They, with no hesitation, dropped their nets to follow Him. God called to them and they answered “yes” just like Mary did when God called her to be the mother of God. No hesistation; just faith.
We are all called to serve God in our own ways. Some of us are called to religious life, some to married life and some to the single life. We all have talents and strengths that make us who we are. These gifts were given to us by God and He expects us to use them to help and serve others and to serve Him.
So, when God calls, are you listening? What will your answer be?
