And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
I’m sure you all know the expression ” no pain, no gain”. But, how do we rejoice in our sufferings? It is hard to look at suffering as something to be embraced, but that is what God calls us to do.
I have had several health issues over the past 10 years and each time I had to go through it, I learned something about myself. I learned that I am indeed so very blessed to have great family and friends supporting me. I learned to appreciate all that I do have in my life. I also came to understand what people with real disabilities have to endure each day and I developed compassion and empathy toward them.
If you persevere in the tough times, God will bring you out of them. I have found in my own life that if I just keep doing the right things and having faith in God, it all works out. Perseverance makes you a stronger person and you can then help others who are going through hard times.
No matter what you are going through, God is there. He knows a little about sacrifice and suffering – He allowed His only Son to be brutally beat and to suffer a humiliating and torturous death on the cross for our sins.
Rejoice in all things! Be greatful to God that He gives you this life and all that’s in it, the good and the bad. If God leads you to it, He will lead you through it.
